About Me

Hello there. My name is Frances Adlam. I work as a counsellor and educationalist from my home in Glendowie. Born and raised in England I have lived in New Zealand for just over 20 years. I have 4 wonderful children that range in ages from – 23 down to 13. In my spare time (ha ha) I indulge in all my passions, which include: contemporary dance, playing the piano, walking Mila – my dog, and going to the movies. I also write profusely and am a published author in children’s fiction and educational resources for teachers

Experience & Qualifications

My background in the world of education includes: being fortunate enough to train with leading international educationalist Ted Wragg at Exeter University UK, twenty years of teaching, lecturing in Multiple Intelligences, drama and dance at all the tertiary institutions in Auckland - NZ, being part of the team that created the NZ Arts curriculum and working as an Advisor for the Ministry of Education. My background in the world of counselling includes: training in Narrative therapy with David Epston at Unitec, lecturing in Narrative therapy and being fortunate (once again!) to have David as my mentor and supervisor.

Problems I help with

I work with children and adolescents that do not fit into systems (often school systems). This may be because they learn or behave in ways that are different to the expectations of school. Many children that come to see me have high anxieties and sensitivities towards their experiences at school. This can lead to further complications such as raised fears of attending school or “playing out” behaviour at home. I weave my educational and counselling threads together; sometimes counselling children and sometimes tutoring them in ways that suit their learning style. Many of the children I work with have been diagnosed with one or some of the following: ADHD, ADD, Dyslexia, Aspergers or Autism. I also work with teenagers and women that may have issues with eating such as anorexia and bulimia.

Counselling: $110 per hour. Educational Assessment: $150 per hour. Tutoring: $65 per hour.
